After an amazing week in Tulum, I’m excited to share our trip! Bohemian dreamscape, nestled along the Caribbean coast. About an hour and a half drive from the Cancun Airport. White sand beaches, eco-friendly boutique hotels, incredible restaurants.. we already cannot wait to make it back!
I’m going to try to fit everything in to one blog post, so here we go!
There are basically two parts to Tulum.. the beach “strip” where all the newer hotels and restaurants are and then Tulum “town” where you get more of a local, Mexico feel.

Location: Casa Pueblo

We decided to rent a car and stay at Casa Pueblo in Tulum town. It was about a 10 minute car ride to the beach area and we actually took cabs more often than not, to avoiding having to park on the strip. Pros to having a car: we got to go explore more of Tulum and surrounding areas without needing a tour guide. Cons: there are unforeseen taxes you will have to pay when you get the car and parking along the beach strip is annoying.
We ended up loving having a car, but if we go back with the kids, I feel like staying right on the beach would be important.

Hat: Brixton
Bag: Zara

Breakfast:
Raw Love- best açaí bowls
Pacifica (this is in town.. don’t miss the chia pudding shown above)
The Real Coconut- in Sanara hotel
Nomade- brunch ends and 11.. bohemian floor pillows (super cute place to check out)
Lunch:
Taqueria Honorio (closes at noon)- My favorite local tacos of the trip (in town)
Posada Margarita- also good for dinner, but the beautiful view is worth going earlier
Dinner:
Hartwood- so soo good, but make sure you make a reservation at least a month in advance
Casa Jaguar- great ambiance, we loved the fish of the day
Gitano- we didn’t have time, but I’ve heard good things!
Bateys- watch them grind their own sugar cane and live music
El Tacoqueto- very local inexpensive typical food in town.. we loved it

Can’t go without experiencing at least one Cenote! We did Cenote Tortuga, which was fun because you do four different types of cenotes on their property.
Gran Cenote and Cenote Crystal are also very popular.
Swim with turtles in Akumal Bay (guide is about $25 and is worth it)
Coba ruins (about 30 minute drive)- one of the last ruins you can climb
If you drive out there, go to Coqui Coqui for a spa treatment
Tulum ruins- beautiful right along the coast
Experience Azulik- you can walk into the amazing IK Lab for free, but we also highly recommend paying $35 or so each to do the sunset “nest” above the jungle. Incredible.
Do yoga at Sanara
Visit Pablo Escobar’s mansion- they will let one person in to check it out OR you can pay a resort fee to use their beach, which goes toward food and drinks (minimum of $75)
We have been to Punta Laguna in the past to see monkeys, but we were not successful this time. I probably wouldn’t bother.
Walk around and take lots of pictures! So much fun architecture and playful sights.
